Stereotypes

We all heard of stereotypes and or used them. There are many types of stereotypes; there are gender, racial and sexuality stereotypes. Stereotyping makes people generalize things. More often, they are all false assumptions. Though there are both positive and negative stereotypes, a majority of them are offensive. People generally stereotype out of bias against a particular group of people or religion. There

Here are some examples of stereotype:

Examples Of Stereotypes

  • All blond women are dumb.
  • Christians are homophobic. They are blinded by God and will recruit you if you go near them.
  • All politicians are philanders and think only of personal gain and benefit.
  • Girls are only concerned about physical appearance.
  • Guys are messy and unclean.
  • Men who spend too much time on the computer or read are geeks.
  • Men who are not into sports are termed as gay.
  • All Blacks are great basketball players.
  • All Indians are deeply spiritual.
  • All Latinos dance well.
  • All Whites are successful.
  • Asians have high IQs. They are smarter than most in Math and Science. These people are more likely to succeed in school..
  • All Canadians are exceptionally polite.
  • French are romantic.
  • All Asians know kung fu.
  • All Muslims are terrorists.

When it comes to the truck commercial they are using generalizations. in the commercial they used different focus groups to prove to viewers that the truck is for a real man. One specific focus group that stuck out to me was the females. The question for the females was "Which man do you think is more sexy" they all chose the man with red truck. This gender stereotype can be translated into jobs, clothing and choice of lifestyle. For example this truck stereotype is like comparing a man in a dress to a man wearing pants. This an example of assimilation in a society. Once the majority of an area has been accustom to social norm in that area the minorities that join the community later will be indirectly be assimilated to fit in. After the assimilation has been successfully implemented into the community stereotypes and generalizations begin start. For example boys should like blue and girls should like pink. After someone or something breaks the social norm assumptions and generalizations begin in this instance a boy that like the colour pink is associated with homosexuality. These generalization are very hurtful and can change someone's true identity and their future choices in life.

This Chevrolet commercial reminded me of the video "Like a Girl"

In the video: "Like a Girl" it shows what the world uses the term "like a girl" and what young girls think it is to be "Like a girl". This video shows how the world uses the phrase "Like a girl" as a derogatory term. At the end of the video Always showed the video using the female athletes to give the message of how it is to be like a girl. The message of the video is to show how being a girl is just as normal as being a guy. Also by giving young girls the vision of not being able to run, throw and fight stops them from meeting aspirations that they want to pursue.

Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Communication

The creation of technology has already has already had a great impact on the way we communicate in todays society. From having simple conversation, we rather share our opinion on twitter or Facebook. From these trends we can now visualize how from a sociable society we moved to a very anti-social lifestyle. The more technology we have, can cause us humans to be disconnected from the lifestyles of our ancestors.

What does the this mean for for the way society functions? EVEN THROUGH THIS PHOTO IT SHOWS HOW PRIVACY IS LOST!

You can see where someones exact location is.
This idea behind google glass in phenomenal, being able to see all this information at the corner of your eyes. But by the looks of this image it tells me that the privacy aspect is clearly broken in this instance. surprisingly google glass can also take images and shoot video without the subject even being aware. Along with the privacy issues it also allows students to cheat on test. think about it, you are doing a test and there is a question that you can't remember, no problem , just google it easy and simply. Overall I love the idea behind the google glass I personally want it, but from a wider perspective we can all see the flaws in this device.

Now onto the idea of communication changes that AI will cause will be they way we communicate worse than what it is now. From the 2000's and before to meet someone it was simple, just walk up to him/her and say hello. Nowadays it is apparent that comminution is an issue with our generation. Companies took advantage of this issue and created meeting/dating websites such as Zoosk, EHarmony and Tinder. There are many flaws to this way of meeting a special someone. You cant find out someones personality right off a dating website, You don't knows someone real intentions whether it is real love or lust, and lastly you can't express real life feeling of getting to know someone online.

Overall I don't like a complete takeover of technology i only approve if just enough to make our lives as humans more simple.

Paparazzi and Celebrities: When does it go too far?

What is paparazzi? Paparazzi are freelance photographers who pursue celebrities and collect photos and videos of them. Although they are great for the public and media, they may be annoying for the celebrities.

When it comes to my position on this topic I gravitate to the side of the celebrity. Sure taking pictures of me is your job and its completely acceptable. Paparazzi can help a celebrity boost their popularity and cause new topics to discuss. although not all paparazzi has good intent. Some paparazzi can be used to hurt or damage the life or career of that celebrity during hard and critical times in their lives.

The Iggy Azalea blog Paparazzo incident reminded me of and event with Britney spears. From living in front of cameras at such a young age Britney Spears was a growing star in the media world. Later into her teens she became a star to millions and really made her face known among the public eye. Into her early twenties she was popular enough to create her own reality show about her marriage to Kevin Federline. These years were very good for Britney's reputation around the world.

Fast forward a couple of years and her life has been a living hell for her. The celebrity has a lot of problems to deal with and having the harassment from the paparazzi make the hardship anywhere more easy. With all the annoyance from the press I can justify Britney's Spears reaction to all this intrusion.

In conclusion there is always a defined line where harassment and publicity differs. There are lines for both celebrities and paparazzi, paparazzi should obey the celebrities and leave them alone some times when they want their own privacy. Although if the interaction becomes physical the celebrity has no right to "Attack", Under all of the fans and music they are still humans and need to follow the same rules that anyone else does.

Social Media Censorship?

Our first world country we are fully connect to social media such as Twitter and Facebook. These social media sites allow users to post statuses for friends to see. Being a teenager i feel that some may use the platforms to vent of anger, sadness or even joy. In some cases we teenagers can abuse these sites by posting sensitive  topics. These sites fully allow freedom of speech therefore allowing people to post things from: sensitive images, swearing and gender or racially suggestive things.

In my opinion everyone has the right to express their own opinion and have the accessibility to free
speech. Without this we would not have any truth and real way to show our own opinion that we feel. For example if we did have censorship in countries such as Libya when the Dictator "Muammar Gaddafi" was still in power the greater world would have no way to see what the terrible man did to his citizens.

Now on the topic of racial comments and sexual orientaitonal comments. My view on these comments is thats 100% fine. Personally i don't let words hurt me. Words only hurt you only if you give the word power. For example one of my good friends was homosexual. He would constantly get slurs saying he is a "Fag", "Faggot" etc. People at my elementary school my my friend feel like trash. If i was in his position I would surely feel bad for myself. But how even though he was getting all the slurs he didn't even care. I asked him why he was fine with all the insults. He replied with "In mind i know that I am human being just like anyone else and at at the end of our life we all die human beings" From there he told me that he isn't going to let someones words hurt me so if i remove the value from those words they are just wasting their breath.  Racial, Gender and Sexual Orientation slurs will always exist, censoring statuses would deny the users of their constitutional right of freedom of speech and the point of social media.  In Conclusion i think that social media does not need to censor the statuses of the users and should be left the way it is.

Here are some example where censorship of internet has affected counties:

Using social media for shaming

The Idea of shaming children on social media has both pros and cons dependent from the perspect of who is giving or reciving the online shame. In the shaming of Rusty Fred and all shaming related to the appearance of their son or daughter is just plain out childish. By altering their appearance it could disturb or ruin their social life, school life and public reputation. By Altering the appearance of child you are making them reluctant to go to school therefore preventing the chance of changing the problem they had in the beginning (Bad grades).

The Rusty Fred article reminds me of the youtube video "Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen."

The video "Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen." reminds me of Rusty Fred because it is similar in the shaming aspect. The video shows Jordan (45) reading what his angry fifth-teen year old said about him on Facebook. From calling his dad names to accusing him of sleeping with his sister. After reading the whole post and justify what was true and false, he proceeded to place his daughter's laptop on the dirt he was was standing on. After placing the laptop on the ground "This right here is my .45," he says, moving a pistol into the frame. He repeatedly took shots into the laptop giving a reason before pulling the trigger. I don't think that using the pistol to destroy the laptop was necessary, it could have been replaced with simply destroying it with his bare hands

My opinion on this way of punishment is the most ideal way punishment should be given to children. No, I don't mean go and buy a gun an start shooting everything your child take pleasure in doing. I mean compared to physical punishment such as "spanking" or "no dinner" taking away what the child like would be a valuable substitute to traditional ways of punishment.
